Patong Beach is the beating heart of Phuket tourism — and once you're here, you'll understand why. But beyond the famous strip lies a whole world waiting to be discovered. Here's our local guide.
1. Sunrise Walk on the Beach
Set your alarm for 6am and walk the full length of Patong Beach before the crowds arrive. The light is extraordinary and the sea is glassy calm. You'll share the sand with a handful of joggers and fishermen — the real Patong that most tourists never see.
2. Bangla Road After Dark
Yes, it's touristy. Yes, it's wild. And yes, you should experience it at least once. Bangla Road doesn't really start until 10pm — before that it's tuk-tuks and closing-time stragglers. Go late, stay curious, and keep your wits about you.
3. Jungceylon Shopping Mall
An enormous air-conditioned mall with a Thai food court, cinema, supermarket, and all the international brands. Perfect for a rainy afternoon or picking up essentials at reasonable prices. The food court on the ground level is genuinely good.
4. Rent a Scooter to Karon Beach
Just 10 minutes south of Patong, Karon Beach is quieter, longer, and equally stunning. Scooter rentals from around ฿200–300/day are widely available. Ask us at M2 reception for a trusted rental recommendation — we'll point you to someone reliable.
5. Muay Thai at Patong Boxing Stadium
A live Muay Thai fight is a genuine bucket-list experience. The energy, skill, and theatrics of a professional bout are unlike anything else. Tickets are available from around ฿1,500 and fights run several nights a week. Check schedules at the stadium on Sainamyen Road.
6. Wat Suwan Khiri Wong Temple
A beautiful, active Buddhist temple right in the heart of Patong — and most tourists walk right past it. Take 20 minutes to visit, dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered), and enjoy the peaceful contrast to the bustle outside its gates.
7. Take a Day Trip to Phi Phi Islands
Full-day speedboat tours depart from Phuket's Chalong Pier and include snorkelling, beach time at Maya Bay, and lunch. Tours run roughly ฿1,500–2,000 per person. Book through a reputable operator — we can recommend one at reception.
8. Visit the Big Buddha
45 minutes by scooter or taxi, the Big Buddha sits atop Nakkerd Hill and offers breathtaking 360-degree views over the entire island. Visit at sunset if you can — the light over the Andaman Sea is extraordinary. Entry is free; modest dress required.
9. Learn to Cook Thai Food
Several cooking schools operate near Patong, ranging from half-day market-to-table classes to full-day experiences. You'll visit a local market, learn to balance sweet, sour, salty and spicy, and go home able to make a proper green curry. Prices start from around ฿1,200 per person.
10. Simply Relax
Rent a sunbed for ฿100–200, order a fresh coconut from a beach vendor, and let Patong do what it does best — make your holiday feel completely effortless. The pace here has a way of slowing you down, and that's exactly the point.
